Essay Contest to Win an Inn — A Dream Passed Along Through Words
This is a heartwarming and entertaining true story about passion, hospitality, and commitment. Passing Along Our Dream tells the story of Bill and Susie Mosca, the visionary couple behind the first Center Lovell Inn Essay Contest, and their remarkable journey from city life to country innkeepers.
Their adventure began in the mid-1980s when they spotted a charming 1805 farmhouse featured in Yankee Magazine. Newly married and yearning for a simpler life away from urban crime and stress, the Moscas took a leap of faith—purchasing the old mansard-roofed home in rural Lovell, Maine. On a shoestring budget, they transformed it into a thriving bed and breakfast that became both their business and their life’s passion.
Building a Legacy of Hospitality
For twenty years, the Moscas poured their hearts into creating an inn known for its warmth, character, and community spirit. Their story—equal parts Bob Newhart Show charm and small-town perseverance—embodied what it means to chase a dream with grit and grace.
When it came time to retire, the couple conceived a truly original idea: to give the Inn away through an essay contest. The competition attracted thousands of heartfelt entries from across the globe. Many of these essays—funny, touching, and deeply personal—are featured in their book Passing Along Our Dream, alongside the winning entry by Janice Sage, who became the Inn’s second innkeeper.
A Tradition That Lives On
In 2015, Janice Sage carried the legacy forward by hosting her own essay contest, awarding the Center Lovell Inn to Prince and Rose Adams, a husband-and-wife team originally form New York City. The story made national headlines, including features in The Boston Globe, The Seattle Times, and Yankee Magazine.
Today, the Adams family continues the Inn’s legacy of hospitality, passion, and purpose—welcoming guests from around the world to this historic haven on the edge of Maine’s White Mountains.
Experience the Legacy
The story of Center Lovell Inn is one of hope, renewal, and community—proof that dreams can indeed be passed along.
